Vehicle Final Assembly

Final assembly is the stage where the painted body is turned into a complete vehicle on trim, chassis and final lines, by fitting wiring, interior, glazing, powertrain, suspension, wheels and fluids before end-of-line testing.

On the trim line, doors are often removed for separate sub-assembly while wiring harnesses, the cockpit module, headliner, glazing and interior parts are installed. On the chassis line, the body is joined from below with the powertrain and suspension in an operation commonly called the marriage or decking; in electric vehicles this includes the battery pack and drive units. The final line adds seats, wheels, doors, bumpers and fluids, after which the vehicle proceeds to end-of-line testing.

Final assembly involves more manual work than the body or paint shop and handles very high variant complexity, as each vehicle may differ in trim, options and powertrain. Parts are therefore delivered in build sequence, and work instructions and error-proofing guide operators for each vehicle.

Safety-critical fastenings are made with controlled tightening tools that record results, and serial numbers of key components are linked to the vehicle record for traceability. Ergonomics, line balancing and quality gates are central to performance. Collaborative robots and automated stations handle selected tasks such as glazing or wheel fitting.
