End-of-Line (EOL) Testing
End-of-line testing is the series of functional and quality checks a vehicle or major assembly passes at the end of production, such as wheel alignment, headlamp aim, roller tests, electronic checks and water leak tests, before release.
For vehicles, EOL stations typically include wheel alignment and headlamp aiming, a roller test that checks brakes, drivetrain and stability-control functions, and electrical tests through the diagnostic interface that program or code control units and check for stored fault codes. Driver assistance cameras and radars are calibrated on dedicated stands, and water leak, squeak and rattle and final visual audits complete the sequence. Electric vehicles add high-voltage safety checks, such as insulation resistance and equipotential bonding, and charging tests.
EOL testing catches assembly faults before the vehicle reaches the customer, confirms that safety systems work and records each vehicle's results for traceability. Battery packs, drive units and other major assemblies also pass their own EOL tests on their production lines.
Test equipment must be calibrated and test limits controlled, because a wrongly set limit can pass faulty units or reject good ones. Failures are routed to repair and retest, and failure data are analysed to fix upstream causes. High-voltage testing must follow applicable electrical safety requirements, such as those in ISO 6469-3, and be carried out by qualified personnel using OEM procedures.
Key points
- Includes alignment, headlamp aim, roller and electrical tests
- Control units are programmed and checked through the diagnostic interface
- EVs add insulation, bonding and charging checks
- Results are recorded for each vehicle for traceability
Where AiVibe comes in
AiAmbA use cases include visual inspection on textile and automotive lines, predictive maintenance and digital twins. Existing lines are retrofitted with edge devices, and AI agents only propose changes for a trained operator to confirm.
