Vacuum Gripper

A vacuum gripper holds objects with suction cups or foam pads connected to a vacuum source, typically a compressed-air venturi ejector or an electric vacuum pump, and is widely used for cartons, sheets, panels and packaged goods.

When a cup seals against a surface, the vacuum source lowers the pressure inside it and atmospheric pressure pushes the part against the cup. Holding force depends on the vacuum level and the effective cup area. Venturi ejectors generate vacuum from compressed air close to the cup and react quickly, while pumps suit high-flow or continuous duties. Vacuum switches or sensors confirm the grip.

Vacuum grippers handle cartons, bags, sheet metal, glass, wood panels, solar cells and food packs in palletising, depalletising, packaging and press tending. Foam and zoned grippers can pick varied or partially covered loads, which suits mixed-case palletising and logistics picking.

Porous, rough, oily or very flexible surfaces leak and need higher flow, special cups or a different gripper type. Engineers size cups with safety factors for acceleration and orientation, select cup materials for the product and assess what happens if the supply is lost, since parts may drop. Compressed-air consumption is a notable running cost for ejector-based systems.

Where AiVibe comes in

AiVibe designs and manufactures the AiAmbA AI Factory, whose edge devices and AI agents let people talk to robot controllers in plain language. Robotics perception is an AiAmbA use case, and robot safety functions follow ISO 10218 and never depend on the AI layer.
